Arts Award

Arts Award is...

• a great way for children and young people to be inspired by and enjoy the arts

• offered at five levels; four accredited and one introductory award

• a framework for learning new skills and sharing them

• an opportunity to develop creativity and leadership skills

• a link between young people and creative arts professionals

♦ on the Qualifications Credit Framework and is accredited by OFQUAL

♦  a qualification:

♦  Bronze is a Level 1 qualification on the Foundation Learning Tier, Silver is Level 2, and Gold is Level 3 and holds 35 UCAS points

♦  Discover is an introductory award and Explore is an Entry Level 3 qualification

There are no entry requirements, no time limit for completing the award, and no set rules on how you present your final work. You just need to be aged between 7 and 25, and ready to explore new creative experiences.

What do I need to do?

♦ To support young people through Arts Award you need to be a trained Arts Award Adviser
♦  Tees Valley Arts are Arts Award Adviser trainers for Bronze & Silver in the Tees Valley and Gold for the North East region.  We offer public training, and also in-house options (ideal if you have 6 or more staff, or wish to work with partner schools or organisations; this may be cost-effective and the content can be made more sector-specific)
♦ Customs House in South Shields are the Arts Award Trainers for Discover and Explore in the North East
♦  TVA is Arts Award Welcome and can provide high-quality arts experiences which will support your pupils in achieving their Arts Awards. We can also offer a complete Arts Award ‘package’.

Sally Clements and Ruth Jones are working with Arts Award to find ways in which Arts Award can more actively support young people who may have difficulty accessing or completing the qualification because they may be deemed vulnerable, excluded, or at risk for a wide range of reasons and circumstances.

In order to do this we need to:

*  more fully understand what the challenges and barriers are for specific groups of young people

*  identify examples of Arts Awards or other qualifications being successfully delivered in challenging circumstances

If you have experience of working with the client group, use the Arts Award or have found that the Award doesn't suit your setting please spend 10 minutes completing this simple on line survey to inform how we make it better.
