Pennyman Primary School

The artwork at Pennyman school is an excellent example of how artists can work with children and staff to create exciting and innovative environments for children to learn and develop both academic and interpersonal skills.

The main aim for this project was to create a learning space for the childrem to work and play in. Pennyman School is the only special needs school in Middlesbrough, which integrates children with physical difficulties into mainstream education.

Both courtyards (Undersea and Jungle) are based on the culmination of a wealth of ideas from (initially from Landscape Architects Jan Anderson and Peter Small, Middlesbrough Borough Council), the artists involved Debbie Covell & Andy McKeown (Undersea Courtyard) and Dani Modena (Jungle Courtyard) as well as the children from Pennyman School.
