JOURNEYS

Tees Valley Arts are looking for young people aged 15 to 20 to take part in a new project at Middlesbrough myplace. The project is called Journeys and is a great opportunity for young people to work with local playwright Ishy Din whose play “Snookered” toured nationally in 2012.

Ishy is the current writer in residence at the Manchester Royal Exchange, he is writing for a Chanel 4 series and is developing a movie idea with “Bend it like Beckham”, director Gurinda Chadha.

Tim Coyte, Projects Officer at Tees Valley Arts commented “We are looking for young people with an interest in drama, performing or writing or maybe they just have loads of random ideas for characters but don’t know what to do with them!”

The idea is for young people to work with Ishy to create a short, youth-based drama piece exploring what it means to be young and living in Teesside today, this piece will be performed at myplace Middlesbrough on 23rd May 2013.

Ishy Din commented “I feel strongly that young people in the area should have a chance to tell their story but we need more young people to get involved!”

Weekly drama workshops are taking place on Thursdays from 6 – 9 pm in the theatre space at Middlesbrough myplace.

Tim Coyte said “This is a superb venue and it’s great to have support from myplace staff. If transport to the venue is needed a minibus is available to pick up and drop off young people at Middlesbrough Bus Station”.

If you are interested or know someone who might be interested please contact Tim Coyte at Tees Valley Arts on 01642 264651. Alternatively please visit the Journeys page on our website to register and a member of the artistic team will contact you.

Journeys is delivered by Tees Valley Arts and funded through Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts scheme.
