FORGET pear trees – a partridge in a primary school has helped inspire some high-flying works of art.

For six weeks, textile artist Serena Partridge has been working with pupils in Redcar’s St Benedict’s Catholic VA Primary School to create a flock of 3D fantasy birds.

Encouraged by Serena, the children designed the birds before making them from felt.

And now, the school hall is alive with an array of brightly coloured felt birds, perched on trees with a perfect blue sky and fluffy white clouds as a background.
