Phoenix Art Group was initially set up in 2001 for people with mental health issues, and has been open to everyone with an interest in the arts for the last three years. The group has met at St Mary’s Church in Stockton but unfortunately the Church are unable to accommodate the group any more and the group has until the beginning of March to find other accommodation.
Adrian Moule, the voluntary arts facilitator is now asking anyone who is in a position to help in any way possible.
The group currently pays a small amount for the use of a large room on a Saturday and storage for their materials. The group encourages well being through the visual arts and crafts and can supply some materials to those who are not in a position to engage in the arts otherwise.
Adrian commented,
“What we need is a room to cater for 15 people working from tables from 9am until 3pm on a Saturday, and some storage. If anyone knows of a space available on Saturdays that can accommodate this use please contact me on 07971 356095. We help with the showcasing of work for the participants and develop their skills in employability where possible. The importance of the group is apparent; one person who has had to move to Sunderland is travelling down to Stockton on Saturdays to continue meeting and working on their art projects.”
The Phoenix Art Group caters for people who have suffered mental health problems/issues, carers for people with disabilities, people who are suffering the effects of Diaspora and those who are looking for a safe environment and friendships to engage in arts and crafts.
